Recognizing and extending patterns is fundamental in mathematics, from basic arithmetic to complex algebraic expressions. This lesson exposes students to a variety of patterns, including numeric and geometric sequences.
One example might be an arithmetic pattern like 2, 4, 6, 8. Students would learn that each number increases by 2, recognizing this consistent “rule”. When asked to extend the pattern, they would confidently continue with 10, 12, 14.
