Get to Know About Introduction to Co-ordinates

This activity pairs sound cues with a numbered grid to reveal coordinate pairs. You hear a tone and find its matching spot on the grid. Each pair names an exact position on the flat surface.

A coordinate pair shows a point on a two-dimensional surface. That surface stretches on forever in every direction. Two lines meet at zero. One line runs left to right and marks the x-axis. The other runs up and down and marks the y-axis. The first number tells how far left or right a point sits. The second number shows how far up or down it sits. Writers place the horizontal number first and the vertical next.

You use coordinates to sketch shapes or plot curves in math class. You use them to check a spot on a map or share your location with GPS. Number pairs give clear instructions. Anyone can follow them.
